Whitehern

Visiting Whitehern right before Christmas. I've taken photos on the outside of the house many times over the years, but I've never been inside! But I saw a promotional post on Instagram saying it was all decorated for Christmas so of course I had to check it out ! It looked beautiful beautiful, It was so fun to see all the different styles of Christmas Trees the family had over the years (through the generations). Most of the furniture and decorations in the house are original to the house and family. A lot of the time these historic home museums bring in furniture from the time period (and look at references) to make the house look as authentic as possible. But in this case they had all of the original furniture which was donated with the house with instructions from the family. There was even a doll in one of the rooms that was gifted to the children for Christmas, and there was a picture of one of the children holding it (from the turn of the century). The tour guide also mentioned there being letters from the mom tlaking about going out to buy the doll. The ornaments on the Christmas trees are unfortunately not original to the house/family but they decorated them as the family would've in their respective time periods.  I am obsessed with the ribbon hanging on the light in the dining room and I'll be trying that for a holiday in 2024! I had so much fun walking through the house and looking at all the beautiful decorations, especially when they are all decorated for Christmas.

A Christmas Carol

Sunday Morning rain is falling.... it was another wet morning in Niagara on the Lake. What are the odds that it rains the whole weekend I'm here. But I'm glad the weather -cold wise- was pretty mild. I started the day with eggs Benedict, my favourite breakfast food ! I love going out to eat breakfast, don't you ?? I think its because it feels like a novelty,  I don't go out for breakfast very often, only when I travel. I should change that! But anyway, I had my breakfast and I packed up all of my things back in my luggage to have them ready. Then I headed off to the theatre ! I went to see A Christmas Carol and it was a beautiful production, I feel like they do this show every Christmas but it was my first time seeing it. I love all the whimsical elements throughout the show. After the show I stopped at Craigs cookies to bring a big box of cookies home because they were delicious ! After that I waved goodbye to the Prince of Wales and headed home. I had an amazing time in Niagara on the lake, if you ever get a chance to go at Christmas time I highly recommend it, it's such a different atmosphere than in the summer.

Rainy Day In Niagara on The Lake

I woke up to a rainy day Niagara on the Lake, I had breakfast in the restaurant inside the hotel I'm staying at, the Prince of Wales. I'm not sure if the restaurant has a specific name but its gorgeous ! I ate in the brown room with the leather couches and fireplace. Its a gorgeous restaurant! I had the waffles, which is unusual for me since I normally get eggs Benedict if its on the menu, but I'll be getting that tomorrow!  After breakfast there was a window where it stopped raining so I went out for a walk. I wore this camel coloured coat, and I added a cream vintage fur collar. I paired that with a cream knit beret and matching mittens. As you can tell my hair quickly got ruined in the rain haha. Below you can see some photos from my phone, mainly from walking around. In the evening it was cold and rainy so a little wine and snacks hit the spot as an appetizer before dinner. For dinner we went to the Angel Inn and I had a caesar salad wrap with fries.

Arrived In Niagara On The Lake

I have arrived in Niagara On The Lake !  This is my second time staying here at Christmas time and OMG it's just so beautiful. Honestly walking into the hotel with my vintage luggage makes me feel like I'm walking into the hotel in White Christmas..... especially since there is no snow lol. It was raining but there was a small window where it didn't rain so I took advantage of that, and walked around the street. I'm not sure if this is every weekend or only on a specific day but they were having an event on the main street. They closed the road to cars and everyone walked around/shopped while holding candles. You saw kids and families, even groups of teenagers all walking around with their candles and it was beautiful. You really felt a sense of community and it also felt like you stepped back in time. What a beautiful tradition !  They also had a school choir singing, which could be heard along most of the main street. I love things like that...you don't see these sort of traditions in the big cities. In Toronto (or any other major city) its much more commercial and less family oriented, which is sad.... Christmas is suppose to be cozy and joyful and filled with love.  I think thats one of my favourite things about coming to Niagara on the lake at Christmas time. I feel like I'm pausing and soaking up Christmas.
Anyway so I walked outside, looked at the window displays and grabbed some dinner. It had started raining so I got some Chicken and barley soup and it really hit the spot! After that I headed back to the hotel to get cozy and watch movies, and they had put a white rose on my pillow. Such a beautiful and romantic detail ! I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings!
